EL Minja's Lhasa Apso

Early references to the Lhasa Apso date back two thousand years ago in Tibet. The Lhasa Apso primary function was that of
inner guard dog in Tibetan monasteries and palaces, the Lhasa Apso was not allowed
to leave the country except as gifts from the Dalai Lama.

My first meeting with the breed was in England, at the Crufts Dog show in Earls Court. I fell immediately in love with these dogs.
After some years I exhibit the Lhasa Apso at Crufts, his name was Lingstoc Bruf. My Champion Lingstoc Midas won best of breed at Crufts
in 1987. In the country I lived in those days, there were just a few breeders which didn't breed much.
So I waited till I was in the Netherlands and search for Topquality kennels. I always say, Lhasa Apsos are little Afghans,
and really they are, the temperament and attitude are much a like.
The most interesting part for me and my husband Frank is breeding as the best quality within the breed standard.
I do like to breed with points of great importance: the Lhasa Apso type, Oriental expression head, sound movement, soundness in conformation
overall balance and good density of coat. We are very succesful.
My husband likes Lhasa Apso puppies very much and they all love him. The puppies always plays with him.
The puppies knows him very well, even when they are gone and come back for visits.
In 1987 arrived, two females, Nykita and Madonna. The foundation of my Lhasa Apso kennel for many years.
My dogs are based on two lines and they go back to the old American so called Hamilton Lhasa Apso stock and the old English,
our dogs are found in numerous kennels world wide.
The Lhasa Apso is not a typical lapdog. These charming and elegant dogs believe themselves to be the protector of the household. The dog develops close bonds with its owner and may seem suspicious of strangers, but it has an excellent sense of restraint and judgement.
The Lhasa Apso is very strong-willed. When training, it is important to try and maintain the authority. They do not respond to training, but they do respect a firm, positive leader. You will have to earn the respect of a Lhasa Apso, but once you do you have a friend for life. Though it makes an ideal house and apartment dog, the Lhasa Apso needs daily exercise to maintain its upbeat attitude. Fresh air and walks will also keep it healthy. If you can allow the dog some time to play in a protected open area, by all means do. It is also a sturdy and well-behaved traveler.
The Lhasa Apso can live as long as 18 years. Grooming is fairly easy, but more attention should be paid when the hair is long. Daily brushing and the occasional bath will keep it looking good. Also remember to check the Lhasa Apsos ears for signs of infection.
Do not hesitate to ask information and support us with your story. The home of the Lhasa Apso is Tibet- the breed taking its name from the sacred city of Lhasa. For at least two thousand years the breed was only bred in Tibet by holy men and nobles. Used as a guard dog in temples and monasteries, and was considered sacred for when its master died, The soul was thought to enter the Lhasa Apso 's body.
Once an Lhasa Apso , always a Lhasa Apso!
